Ever think about how cool the surgical instruments are? These aren't just some metal gadgets; they're like the unsung heroes in the OR, helping doctors do all sorts of critical procedures with exact precision. In this article, we're going to talk about five really cool things about these instruments. I'll throw in some of my own stories and thoughts too.
Alright, number one on our list is robotic surgery—where the future's already here.

Alright, number one on our list is robotic surgery—where the future's already here.
Robotic surgery has changed the whole game. Tools like the da Vinci are doing some pretty amazing stuff. Surgeons can now handle super complicated procedures with a level of accuracy we've never seen before.
I actually got to help out during a robotic surgery gig, and man, watching those instruments move just like a surgeon's hands was incredible. Did you know that this da Vinci thing has been used in more than 4 million surgeries around the world? According to a study in the Journal of Robotic Surgery.

Number two on the list: endoscopic instruments. Think of them as peepholes into the inside of your body.
These endoscopic tools are important in little invasion operations. They let doctors do operations with very small incisions, which speeds up patient recovery and have less pain afterward.
There was a time I helped someone get better super fast after having their gallbladder removed using those endoscopic tools. The patient was back doing their thing in just two weeks because of all that high-tech equipment. The Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy says there are more than 20 million procedures done annually in the United States.

Alright, let's talk about laparoscopic instruments next. They're like the next best thing to a less-invasive surgery.
Laparoscopes have been used for a while, but they've really improved over the time. Now, they let physicians do surgeries with small cuts, which means minor scarring and quicker healing.
My first laparoscopic surgery was so cool to watch. It was dramatic how those devices let the surgeon move around the belly so easily. SAGES says that laparoscopic surgery is now the favorite for a bunch of different issues.

Now, onto our fourth item: ultrasound-guided instruments. They're kind of like little detectives, helping us see what's going on inside.
These ultrasound-guided devices are getting pretty popular, especially in cancer care. They use cool real-time visuals to help surgeons during surgical procedures, which makes everything more precise and less risky.
I got to help with a thyroidectomy using those instruments guided by ultrasound, and it was awesome to observe how the tech assisted the surgeon find that organ extremely precisely. A study in the the Journal of Clinical Ultrasound says that these instruments guided by ultrasound are really causing improvements in results for patients for many surgeries.

And finally, the fifth and most important thing: sterilization and disinfection. This is all about keeping patients safe.
You can't underestimate how important cleaning and sterilisation are in operations. It's got to be done right so preventing infections in patients.
I learnt this through difficulties during my education, and it's has become my highest priority. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) say that doing the cleaning right can reduce surgical site infections by up to 80%. That's significant.
